First let me say that while this process took a bit I'm giving this a 4 star because of the product concept, despite my modifications to the product. Also...I never give reviews - so take that for whatever it may be worth.I live in a small apartment and need to be creative with my space and came across this hide-away or murphy desk and was completely sold on the idea.I first ordered this product and when received we found it was gouged on one side, the screws which held the desk in place when closed were stripped and the bracket area which holds the desk up was cracked and looked like it had been glued. As you can imagine I was not happy or pleased at this at all. The murphy desk concept is a great idea and because of this I decided to return it and have another one shipped out. That process was great - no questions asked and the new product was immediately shipped and received timely. When we went to install the new item here were the issues...the directions received were the most ridiculous instructions I've ever received - mount at eye level - really? This is a heavy unit for one person to hold. We have to use a smaller table and used books at incremental levels to get it to the height we needed when the desk was dropped. Once we leveled it in all directions, we were ready to mount. The hardware is completely insufficient and we had to change out the hardware to longer screws. Additionally, because this is a heavier unit, we also installed 4 L shaped brackets on the bottom of the unit - 2 brackets per stud as additional support for the unit.We also discovered that the panel which acts as the leg of the desk is easily moved, so you have to be careful not to accidentally bump this or all your precious equipment will tumble off. It would have been great to offer some locking mechanism for this area. Solution: this is not sufficient for a wedge type doorstop - as there is no room, however we purchased a cast iron doorstop and placed it on the inside or underneath the desk against the panel that acts as the leg in an effort to just give added support for this not to move.I have on the desk a 15" laptop and I also use a secondary monitor on the desk as well. I also have a coffee table which lifts and is the exact height of the desk. When I have the desk in use, I turn my coffee table and position it to the desk, lifting up the table. I use it in an 'L' shaped fashion and when done the desk is hidden away and the coffee table rolled back in front of the couch. So despite my hardware modifications and additions, despite having to send the product back for damage and getting a new one, I have to give this a 4 star. If this manufacturer took the efforts to provide better quality hardware and create some locking mechanism for the leg of the desk this would be the premiere offering for those that are in tight spaces and small apartments.
